Such stylishness was originally widespread more than half a century ago; all through the 1950s it was a style that was often seen on New York's catwalks. Pin up clothing can be described as being fun, but also sexy. Such items are based on designs from an earlier period era, youll will find that the overall look is very sensual.

Many pin up girls were photographs of celebrities who were considered sex symbols. One of the largely popular early pin up girls was Betty Gable. Her poster was everywhere in the lockers of G.I.S during World War II. Other work was artwork, often depicting idealized versions of what some thought a particularly beautiful or desirable woman should look like.

Traditionally these images were photographs but the phrase later includes artwork as well. The term "Pin up girl" can be traced back to the early 1940s where images in magazines were so tempting people were compelled to pull them out and pin them on the wall. And although the pin-up girl style is distinct, present Pin up clothing models and artwork have turned into a larger scheme.

  3. katiee (: says:

What were the most popular clothing items in the 1940s?

  4. Thomas says:

Elegant clothing in Paris and “Denim Jeans” for the common people. The fabric for the trousers came from Italy, from the city of Genova, English: Genoa, French: Gênes. From the English pronounciation of the French word “Gênes” the name became: “Jeans”. Most of the French “Jeans” came from the city of Nîmes, in French: “de Nîmes”, English: “Denim” *.

(“Jeans” therefore is in short the English pronounciation of the French name of an Italian city.)

Where can I find vintage (like 1940s) clothing that is bright, flirty and fun? (and inexpensive)?
Kind of like Katy Perry’s style really. already tried forever 21, wet seal, rave. . .

What is the style of a 1940s detective or traditional clothing worn during this time period?
My local gamestop is having a midnight release for L.A.Noire and for this release, they’ve decided to have a theme release. So my friends and I decided it’d be a great senior memory before we all go off to college. So i’d like some ideas on the clothing worn for a male during this time. Thanks for everyones input and help.

  8. Possum says:

Typically, a male (detective, businessman other than blue collar and uniformed workers) in the 1940′s wore a suit with a white shirt and tie, brogans (heavy laced shoes-no loafers or sneakers, rarely boots), a topcoat during inclement weather, and always wore a fedora, which he removed on entering a building. Facial hair was sometimes seen but it was not a common fashion style-short hair and clean shaved were the norms.

  9. Rusty says:

Try estate sales, you’ll almost always find some there and since they are usually not easy items to sell the price is very low.
